Accademia Gallery Tour

The Accademia Gallery is home to one of the world’s greatest works of art: the David by Michelangelo. Admired and acclaimed by experts and travellers worldwide, this amazing sculpture is considered an icon of the Renaissance. Carved from a single block of Carrara marble when Michelangelo was only in his twenties, the sculpture is truly impressive.
With a qualified guide, you will be able to admire the details of the extraordinary body with its muscles and veins that make the statue seem alive. Placed at the entrance to Palazzo Vecchio once finished in 1504, as an inspiring symbol of the strength and independence of the Florentine Republic, the David was moved to the Accademia in 1873 to protect it from damage.
Other interesting works by Michelangelo are displayed in the gallery: the four unfinished Prisoners intended for the tomb of Pope Julius II and a statue of St. Matthew, also uncompleted.
